Step‑by‑Step Instructions
- In a stand mixer, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 2 teaspoons of instant yeast, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Gradually add in 1 cup of warm milk and 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Mix until smooth and elastic, about 4-5 minutes.
- Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for 30-60 minutes until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F. Punch down the dough, divide it into 12 pieces, roll into ropes, and cut into 1 to 2-inch bites.
- In a large pot, boil 4 cups of water, add ½ cup of baking soda, and drop the bites in for 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon.
- Whisk together 1 egg with a tablespoon of water and brush each bite. Sprinkle coarse sea salt on top.
- Bake for 12-14 minutes until golden brown.
