  • 4 pieces Sweet Onions (Vidalia or yellow)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter Substitute with olive oil for a lighter touch.
For the Seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon Italian Seasoning
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
For the Cheesy Layer
  • 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1 cup Provolone Cheese (sliced)
  • 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Peel and slice the sweet onions (Vidalia or yellow) into thick rings, approximately ½ inch wide.
  2. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and coat the bottom of a 9x13-inch casserole dish with butter.
  3. Arrange the sliced onions flat in the greased casserole dish in a single layer.
  4. Sprinkle salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning over the onions, adding pats of butter on top.
  5. Layer the cheeses starting with shredded mozzarella, followed by provolone and topped with grated Parmesan.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until golden and bubbly. Optionally broil for an extra 2 minutes for a crispy topping.
  7. Let the dish rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
