Preparation
- Peel and slice the sweet onions (Vidalia or yellow) into thick rings, approximately ½ inch wide.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and coat the bottom of a 9x13-inch casserole dish with butter.
- Arrange the sliced onions flat in the greased casserole dish in a single layer.
- Sprinkle salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning over the onions, adding pats of butter on top.
- Layer the cheeses starting with shredded mozzarella, followed by provolone and topped with grated Parmesan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes until golden and bubbly. Optionally broil for an extra 2 minutes for a crispy topping.
