  • 1 tsp Salt Adjust according to taste preferences.
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper Can substitute with cayenne for spice.
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder Alternatively, use fresh minced garlic.
  • 1 tsp Minced Onion Fresh onion can be used instead.
  • 8 oz Cheddar Cheese American or Swiss cheese can be used.
  • 1 cup Ketchup Can replace with BBQ sauce for a twist.
  • 1 cup Dill Pickle Chips Optional for customization.
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Seeds Optional garnish.

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Toothpicks

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and bake the frozen tater tots according to package instructions, usually about 25–30 minutes, until they are golden brown and crispy. Once done, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and minced onion. Mix gently until just combined, then form small patties slightly wider than the tater tots, about a half-inch thick.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef patties and cook for about 3–4 minutes on each side until browned and cooked to an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  4. Return the patties to the pan and place a small slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cover the skillet for about 1–2 minutes to melt the cheese.
  5. To assemble, start with a tater tot as the base, add ketchup, a cheesy beef patty, a dill pickle chip, and finish with another tater tot on top. Secure with a toothpick.
  6. Arrange your bites on a platter and garnish with sesame seeds or chopped chives. Serve warm.
