Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Crispy Chilli Beef
  1. Slice your beef sirloin or flank steak thinly against the grain into strips, about ¼ inch thick. Set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine cornstarch, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Whisk until mixed. Add egg and gradually stir in water until smooth.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat to approximately 350°F. Dip each beef strip in batter, allowing excess to drip off, then fry in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Remove crispy beef strips using a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Keep warm in a low oven.
  5. In a wok, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add garlic, ginger, onion, and bell pepper. Sauté for about 2 minutes.
  6. Pour in soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, chili sauce, and sugar. Stir well and simmer for about 2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  7. Add the crispy beef strips to the wok and toss to coat in sauce. Stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  8. Transfer to a serving platter and serve immediately with jasmine rice or noodles.
