  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar Can replace with coconut sugar
  • 2 large Eggs For vegan option, use flaxseed meal
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 cup Milk Almond or soy milk as non-dairy substitutes

Equipment

  • 9-inch round cake pan
  • Mixing bowl
  • Medium saucepan
  • Electric mixer

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan. Peel, core, and slice the apples into wedges.
  2. Melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter in a medium saucepan, then stir in 1 cup of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Bubble gently for 3-5 minutes until golden.
  3. Pour the caramel into the greased cake pan, spreading it evenly. Layer apple wedges over the caramel in a circular pattern.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. In another bowl, cream 1 cup of sugar and 2 eggs until fluffy. Gradually add 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 1/2 cup of milk.
  5. Pour the cake batter over the layered apples. Bake for approximately 40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then gently invert onto a serving plate to reveal the caramelized apples.
